I have only seen one cat chase a squirrel. It looked like it really wasn't trying, just chasing for fun. Maybe it had caught one before and decided it wasn't worth the pain.
Ha! A few years back we had a part Siamese cat given to us. One day I saw him walking up to the house dragging something. I couldn't figure out what I was seeing. Yes, it was a squirrel. Of all the cats we've had in our 40 years, that chunky Siamese was the only one we ever knew to catch a squirrel.
While we don't have cardinals in our area the Mrs. is very fond of them and their likeness adorns many things in our house. Our feeder attracts less flashy birds like dark-eyed juncos, sparrows, chickadees, and house finches. The suet block is a favorite of our local flickers and it is fun watching them contort themselves to get at the peanut-infused goodness as they are really too big for the feeder.
I had to apologize that this is only the second time I’ve read a writing of yours. I remember you from the Coffee and Covid Substack.
My life has gotten so busy following the directors of the Holy Spirit from learning biblical Hebrew to helping several elderly friends and meeting new friends everywhere from New Orleans to Houston to Santa Fe, New Mexico. And here I am in Santa Fe with a light snowfall and such beauty where I see Jesus in the weather. I also see him in nature as you do. About a week ago I was walking on Lake Waco and a gray fox Put on a display like a puppy dog, jumping in the air and having fun as I called out to him.
Being a science teacher for four decades and installing gardens, all throughout the United States has just led me to the affirmation of the over abundance of God in nature. I just don’t understand how people can say. There is no God without looking at the wonderful creation of a mushroom of limestone rock, a cedar tree or your Cardinals . I’m not a Tattoo guy but after my 28-year-old 10 year veteran son accidentally choked in his own vomit, I copied some of his tattoos. And the second one I put on my shoulder is “God is the great scientist.” Because he is, his creation is eternal and splendid and amazing.
Anyway, thank you so much for reading your story tonight before I go to bed and wake up at three in the morning with Ruoch Hakodesh giving me instructions for the day here in Santa Fe.
